Clinical Risk Management & Patient Safety Manager – Cambridge Health Alliance

Julie Holden is currently a Clinical Risk and Patient Safety Manager at Cambridge Health Alliance in Cambridge Massachusetts. She has been a quality and patient safety advocate for over forty years with a career spanning various roles in leadership and operations in both acute and non-acute care settings.
As a Certified Just Culture Trainer, she has applied the Just Culture methodology to her work as both an event investigator and patient safety leader. She was inducted into the Chi Epsilon Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International as a community leader and has promoted nursing excellence and patient advocacy at all career levels.
Julie has volunteered her time and efforts toward helping nursing students understand their role in quality and patient safety through her past work with the Institute of Healthcare Improvement’s Open School program. She has mentored military veterans and their spouses in their transition from active duty to civilian service through the American Corporate Partners mentoring program, and is most recently serving as a University of New Hampshire Alumni volunteer.
In her current role, Julie has served on the High Reliability Faculty as part of Cambridge Health Alliance’s High Reliability Organization implementation program. She seeks to incorporate excellence in nursing practice combined with a relentless focus on patient safety in every aspect of her work. She has taught content related to patient safety, regulatory, and reliability topics to nurse educators, new graduate nurses, and as part of ongoing nursing orientation.
Throughout her career, Julie has noted the interconnected nature of leadership and culture to the aspects of safe and quality care that is delivered. Attention to professional and evidence-based practices, listening to the voices of patients and staff, and advocating for transparency in safety and quality practices are most important to her in her work. In her spare time Julie enjoys spending time with her family and playing golf, ensuring that her relentless pursuit of improvement spans both her professional and personal activities.
