Executive Director – Veterans Health Administration Office of Quality Management
Kristi Groves, RN, MBA-HCM, CPHQ, SES-equivalent, serves as the Executive Director for the Veterans Health Administration, Office of Quality Management. Ms. Groves has dedicated her professional life to public service, excellence and servant leadership with an emphasis in quality. A wife of a combat Veteran, Ms. Groves has held nursing clinical and leadership roles in the United States, Asia and Europe supporting and enhancing care for military members, military families and Veterans’ health care. In addition to her work in health care quality, she has contributed to national quality for over a decade as a senior examiner on the Board of Examiners for the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, the highest level of national recognition for performance excellence in the United States.
The Office of Quality Management (OQM) supports the ongoing assessment and improvement of health care outcomes and delivery processes. OQM program offices help ensure we are hiring the right providers, identifying evidence-based practices, monitoring for deviations from standards of care, teaching and using continuous process improvement methods, and keeping our facilities in a continuous state of readiness and compliance with industry standards.
Ms. Groves served as Director and National Improvement Coordinator in the Center for Improvement Coordination (CIC) in QPS, formerly part of RAPID. She was responsible for developing, deploying, supporting and guiding key initiatives and actions to improve quality health care outcomes across VHA as reported in quality metrics such as the SAIL model and MISSION Act. She also serves as the co-director of the National Organization for Leadership and Analytics University (NOLA U) and will continue this role in her current position.
Prior to her role in CIC, Ms. Groves held positions in the National Office of Systems Redesign & Improvement and the former ISO Consultation Division in the Office of Quality, Safety, & Value; at the Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System Joint Ambulatory Care Center; and at the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center. In addition to her 12 years served in VHA, Ms. Groves held both clinical and leadership roles for 8 years with the Department of Defense.
She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing, a Master’s Degree in Business Administration, and certificates in Health Care Management and Project Management. She is also a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt and a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ).
